A Brief History of Prague
Prague has proved to be an exceptionally attractive tourist destination. It has a reputation of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Almost half of the national income from tourism is generated in Prague. The city offers over 72000 beds in various types of accommodation, which were largely built after 1990, of which almost 48000 are located in hotels and boarding houses capable of meeting the requirements of all types of visitors. The tourist services on offer and their quality continue to increase. Almost 2.5 M people used accommodation services in the year 2000 and stayed an average of 4.7 days. At the height of the season as many as 80000 tourists head for Prague daily and around 15 millions of them visit Prague every year...

The Capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, nestling in the very Heart of Europe, has been a crossroads for continental trade routes since primeval times. From the 10th century A.D. the city was the seat of Czech kings and princes. During the mid-14th century Prague was the centre of the Holy Roman Empire and, due to the number of its inhabitants, it became the third largest city in Europe. Even during the Habsbourgh monarchy Prague remained the capital of the Czech Lands, which during the course of the 19th century, economically became the strongest region of what was then the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Prague developed as an important centre where Czech, German & Jewish cultures mixed. After the founding of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1918 it became the metropolis of the new state, its territory expanded and its building industry enjoyed great prosperity. Prague is currently a city of a million inhabitants and covers an area of almost 500 square kilometers. After the Velvet Revolution of 1989 Prague strengthened its secure historical ties with other cities in Central Europe and is gradually acquiring an increasingly favourable position among other important continental cities. Prague is thus creating the prerequisites for becoming a successful and respected city. Centuries of construction development ensured it has a unique international status; given its size it is exceptional for its concentration of national monuments. It provides the setting for various architectural styles whose symbiosis co-creates the singular atmosphere of the city. The most cherished part of the city centre was declared a Prague Conservation Area in 1981, which was added in 1992 to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.

The town of Cesky Krumlov is more and more turning into the final destination of thousands of visitors from our own country and abroad. Cesky Krumlov in Winter season
The unrivaled status of the town led to the declaration of Cesky Krumlov as a Historical Urban Reservation as early as 1963.
The significance of Cesky Krumlov as an unusual Historical Monument was pointed out in 1992 by the act of the International Association of UNESCO.
Cesky Krumlov was included among the monuments of world importance, those to which exceptional care, attention and support had to be indispensably devoted. The unique urban integrity contains more than 300 historical buildings and its atmosphere is absolutely incomparable...

Name of the town, 'Krumlov', is Czech transcription of German 'Krummau' derived from the 'Krumme Aue', which means 'Crooked Meadow'. The name comes from the natural topography of the town, specifically from the tightly crooked meander of the Vltava river.
The word 'Cesky' simply means 'Czech' or 'Bohemian' (actually one & the same), as opposed to 'Moravian' ('Moravsky') or 'Silesian' ('Slezsky').
In Latin documents it was called 'Crumlovia' or 'Crumlovium'. The town was first mentioned in documents from 1253, where 'Krumlov' was called 'Chrumbonowe'.
